What We Do

The Kiwanis Club of Glenwood is dedicated to serving the community—especially children—through hands-on projects, financial support, and partnerships that make a lasting impact. Each year, the club is involved in a wide range of initiatives that promote education, leadership, and service:

School Supplies

Since 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Glenwood has proudly partnered with FNBO Bank and the Mills County Storehouse to support the Supplies4Success program. This initiative provides essential school supplies to students in Pre-K through 6th grade in both the Glenwood and East Mills School Districts.

Thanks to this partnership and community support, over 500 students have received the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn. Supplies4Success ensures that every child—regardless of their circumstances—has the tools to succeed in the classroom.

College Scholarships

If Glenwood High School senior has participated in a Kiwanis-sponsored student club, they are eligible to apply for a $300 scholarship. This scholarship is intended to support their college journey and will be awarded for use during the second semester of their first year.

Thankful for Teacher Grants

Since 2021, the Kiwanis Club of Glenwood has awarded $3,000 in Thankful for Teachers Grants to support local educators. These grants are designed to fund creative ideas and classroom supplies that fall outside standard school budgets, helping teachers enhance the learning experience for their students.

Grant-funded items have included:

  • Flexible desks and seating to support different learning styles
  • Age-appropriate coding tools to introduce students to computer science
  • Alphabet letters and learning materials for preschool classrooms
  • And much more

These grants reflect our commitment to empowering educators and enriching the educational environment for students across Glenwood.

Student Club Sponsorships

The Kiwanis Club of Glenwood proudly sponsors two student service organizations: Builders Club at Glenwood Middle School and Key Club at Glenwood High School. Both clubs empower students to serve their communities, build character, and develop leadership skills — all with the support of Kiwanis mentors.

Key Club – Glenwood High School

Key Club is a student-led service organization for high school students and is part of the global network of Kiwanis International. With more than 5,000 clubs and 270,000 members worldwide, Key Club provides students with opportunities to:

  • Serve Their Communities: Members participate in a variety of service projects that make a real difference locally and globally.
  • Build Leadership Skills: Students take initiative, hold officer roles, and work collaboratively to plan and lead activities.
  • Develop Character: Through hands-on experiences, students learn responsibility, empathy, and the value of helping others.
  • Shape Their Future: Key Club helps students prepare for college, careers, and lifelong service.

Each Key Club sets its own meeting schedule and project calendar to meet the unique needs of its school and community. With guidance from Kiwanis advisors, students lead the way in making a positive impact. Please contact Nicole Thomas at Glenwood High School to learn more about Key Club.

Builders Club – Glenwood Middle School

Builders Club is designed specifically for middle school students and gives them a chance to learn leadership through service. It’s the largest service organization for middle schoolers and is also supported by Kiwanis International. Builders Club offers students the opportunity to:

  • Lead with Purpose: Members take on leadership roles, choose projects they’re passionate about, and help set goals for the club.
  • Serve Together: Through teamwork, students build friendships and work together to complete service activities that benefit their school and community.
  • Grow Personally: Builders Club is designed for students in their middle years — a time when they’re discovering who they are and what matters to them.
  • Learn in a Supportive Environment: Caring adult advisors and a flexible structure allow each club to meet the needs of its members while promoting teamwork and character development.

Like Key Club, each Builders Club is unique, setting its own schedule and activities to reflect the interests of its members and the needs of the community. Kiwanis members and staff are always ready to provide support and encouragement. Contact Mark Starner at Glenwood Middle School for more information about participating in this fun group.
